Reflection

This project helped us better understand the sacrifice soldiers had to make during World War II in order to obtain freedom for the nation. It helped us see that casualties recorded were not merely statistics but individual human lives with their own dreams. If we had the chance to speak to our soldier, we would thank our soldier for his sacrifice in the war effort. We would like to ask him what he would have desired to do with his if the war never happened. We would love to ask his younger self if he ever thought that he would be sent to war, or if this came up to be a shock for him. The most important source was the 134th Infantry Regiment Unit History PDF as it not only provided key information but also photographs of the group. The project redefines the word “gratitude” as more than just saying thank you, the project shows gratitude as deeply appreciating people, struggles, and experiences, while using that appreciation to build on stronger connections, kindness, and empathy with others.
